日前，The Scientist杂志公布了美国生命科学工作者眼中的最佳学术机构。这一结果是基于对科学家的调查而得到的。
众所周知，科研之路是一段充满挑战和冒险的旅程，为了登顶，你需要一点点运气和大量艰辛的工作。然而最近若干年，美国国家卫生研究院的年度预算难以保持增长，因此即便是一些颇有建树的学者为了赢得研究基金，也需耗费很多精力。重压之下，很多大学或研究机构不再将科研视之为对知识的追求，而是将其当做赚取金钱的手段。
这一变化也体现在调查结果之中。在此前的调查中，科学家对是否能得到所在机构的支持、能否进行高水平的研究、合作文化如何等方面比较关心。在今年的调查中，虽然这些指标依旧是科学家们关注的重点，不过良好的医疗保险已经上升为科学家们第二渴望改善的指标。
以下是美国科学家投票选出的最佳学术机构前10名，J. David Gladstone Institutes蝉联冠军。这家位于旧金山的非营利性生物医学研究组织专注于心血管、病毒免疫以及神经退行性病变领域的研究。排名第2至第10的研究机构分别是Sage Bionetworks、Stowers Institute for Medical Research、Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (CeMM)、Massachusetts General Hospital、La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology、Institute for Systems Biology、St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital、Hebrew University of Jerusalem、Blood Systems Research Institute。
